Acting Chairman of BNP, Mr. Tarique Rahman, give the following message on the occasion of Shaheed Jehad Day
Message:
"On the occasion of Shaheed Jehad Day, I pay deep respect to the memory of the fearless soldier of the anti-autocracy movement, Shaheed Nazir Uddin Jehad, and I pray for the forgiveness of his soul. Shaheed Nazir Uddin Jehad is an unforgettable name in the anti-autocratic Ershad movement of the '90s. That blood-soaked movement was for the restoration of multi-party democracy, freedom of speech, and the press. While playing a leading role in the anti-autocratic mass movement of 1990, Shaheed Jehad embraced the police bullet to his chest, sacrificing his life as a brave student leader. His blood paved the way for the mass uprising that year, which led to the fall of the autocratic ruler, Ershad.
Autocrat Ershad had murdered democracy. Jehad sacrificed his life with the firm determination to restore democracy and establish it on a strong foundation. If we fail to realize his dream, his soul will suffer.
To keep the democratic process flowing, a fair election must be held. The essential condition for a free and fair election is a non-partisan neutral government during the election period. Democracy is not just about elections; it means ensuring people's freedom and fundamental rights. Therefore, inspired by the sacrifice of Shahid Jehad, we must resist the conspiracies of domestic and foreign evil forces, safeguard our independence and sovereignty, and restore democracy.
Allah Hafez, Bangladesh Zindabad."
