Statement of BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the incident of Sanjida Islam Tuli, the coordinator of 'Mayer Dak', an organization founded by the families of the disappeared in Bangladesh, and Saiful Islam Shyamal, brother of BNP leader Sajeedul Islam Suman, being taken from their home in Shaheenbagh on September 30, 2024, by individuals identifying themselves as military personnel, who also behaved indecently with their family members.

In a statement today, the BNP Secretary General said, "BNP leader Sajeedul Haque Suman was disappeared almost a decade ago. Since his disappearance, Sajeedul Haque Suman's family has been mentally distressed and traumatized. His mother has nearly lost her eyesight from crying for her son. After all these years, on September 30, 2024, individuals posing as military personnel raided their home and took away Sajeedul Haque Suman's brother, Saiful Islam Shyamal, leaving the family in terror once again. During the raid, the perpetrators verbally abused and acted in an extremely indecent manner with the family, including Sanjida Islam Tuli, the coordinator of 'Mayer Dak'. They also treated the young child in the house cruelly. Even after the ruthless rule of the Awami fascist government has ended, the abduction of Saiful Islam Shyamal from his home has left the nation in shock. Harassing this family is akin to mocking a family already in distress. Saiful Islam Shyamal was previously tortured in a false case filed during the past Awami government's tenure. Even though he is not involved in politics, it is incomprehensible why he was taken. The fact that the accomplices of the Awami League are still active within the administration is the reason for the resurgence of conspiracies and unethical activities. If the interim government fails to take action against these Awami collaborators, the responsibility will fall on them. After the nation has been liberated from the brutal misrule of the fascist Awami regime and the people have begun to breathe a sigh of relief, such heinous incidents are being orchestrated to undermine this newfound peace, which is very concerning.

I am strongly hopeful that the interim government will take a firm stand against the conspiracies of the malicious groups attempting to destabilize the country. I strongly condemn and protest the audacious behavior towards the family of Sanjida Islam Tuli, the coordinator of 'Mayer Dak', and I call for immediate steps to ensure that such incidents are not repeated."
