Protest and Condemnation of BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the incident of former Commerce Adviser and Editor of Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman, being sent to prison without bail in a false case.
In a statement today, the BNP Secretary General said, "Mr. Mahmudur Rahman is a renowned journalist in the country. He has been severely persecuted during the rule of the fallen authoritarian government. He was physically attacked and injured. The fascist regime has repeatedly conspired to endanger his life after failing to suppress him through brutal attacks. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally tried to destroy him because of his courageous and sharp writings in favor of democracy. The Awami fascist government has filed numerous false and politically motivated cases against him and subjected him to ruthless oppression through staged convictions. However, he has remained steadfast in his principles and ideals, undeterred by the government's intimidation. Mahmudur Rahman believes in democracy, coexistence of diverse opinions, and respect for dissent. Even in the face of the aggressive attacks of Awami authoritarianism, he did not bow down. The injustice against him continues as he was denied bail and sent to prison yesterday in a false case. He deserved to be granted bail. I strongly urge the immediate withdrawal of all false cases filed against Mr. Mahmudur Rahman and his unconditional release. I hope the current interim government will ensure justice by granting him bail and acknowledging the contribution of a journalist who stands for democracy."
