Statement of BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman
“Due to continuous heavy rainfall and water surges from upstream, vast areas of lowlands in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram, and Gaibandha districts along the Teesta River have been submerged by sudden floods. The water levels of the Teesta and other rivers in the region are flowing above the danger level. Approximately hundreds of thousands of people have already become trapped in their homes due to the flash floods. The affected people are enduring extreme hardship, and a sense of unease and fear prevails in the area. Roads, crops, and farmland have been submerged.
I urge all leaders, activists, and supporters of BNP and its affiliate organizations in the flood-affected and surrounding districts to actively step forward and provide comprehensive assistance to those affected by the flood. At the same time, I call upon the interim government to swiftly undertake relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas and take effective measures to prevent river erosion.”
