On the occasion of the 25th death anniversary of former BNP Secretary General, former Minister, and eminent politician Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gave the following statement:

Statement

"I express my deep respect for the soul of former BNP Secretary General, former Minister, and eminent politician Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder on his 25th death anniversary. Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder played a historic role in the struggle to ensure citizens' rights, including freedom of speech, personal freedom, and freedom of thought. From his student life, he was involved in progressive politics and always stood at the forefront of the people's movement for national independence and the restoration of democracy.

His contributions as the head of the liaison committee representing the 7-party alliance under BNP's leadership in the 1980s to intensify the democratic movement against autocracy will always be remembered. Mr. Salam Talukder was a straightforward, upright, and resolute political leader who remained steadfast in his duties despite various oppositions. He was revered as a refined and cultured politician in the country's political arena. During his tenure as BNP Secretary General, Mr. Salam Talukder played a significant role in organizing and strengthening the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He also made notable contributions to the development of rural infrastructure during his two terms as Minister.

The party and the nation will always remember with reverence Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder's contributions to establishing the nationalist ideology of the Proclaimer of Independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and transitioning to democracy under the leadership of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia from the clutches of autocracy.

I pray for the forgiveness of his departed soul and extend my condolences to his well-wishers and family members."
