BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman's condolence message

Acting Chairman of BNP, Mr. Tarique Rahman, has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Senior Journalist Rafique Bhuiyan, who was hit by police tearshells.

In a condolence message today, the Acting Chairman of BNP said, "Senior Journalist Rafique Bhuiyan was thrown from the rickshaw by police tear shells in Segunbagicha area of the capital on his way to the National Press Club to perform his professional duties on October 28. He was later taken to hospital. Due to a severe head injury, he bled profusely and failed the doctors' efforts. Journalist Rafique Bhuyan's death is not an accident, it is a planned murder. On that day, the police and Awami terrorists planned attack on the peaceful rally of BNP, he was the victim of that attack.

Rafique Bhuiyan was an experienced and patriotic journalist. He led Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and Dhaka Union Journalists and worked diligently to strengthen the organization and protect the rights of journalists. In his death, the journalistic community lost a dedicated life worker. His emptiness will not easily filled.

60 journalists, including Sagar-Runy, have been killed by the terrorists and law enforcement forces of the ruling party since the current mid night government came to power. Till date these murders have not been prosecuted. Journalist Rafique Bhuiyan was the latest victim of killing by the law and order forces.

I strongly condemn and protest this killing and offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
