A delegation from the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) paid a courtesy call on BNP Chairman and Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman.

The meeting was held today, Wednesday (22 July 2026), at the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat.

During the meeting, the participants held detailed discussions on the current state of Bangladesh's housing sector, the challenges of planned urbanisation, various practical issues arising from the implementation of the Detailed Area Plan (DAP), and the long-term development of the real estate industry.

The REHAB delegation requested that the registration fees for land, plots, and apartments be reduced to a reasonable level. They also emphasised the importance of fully digitising government services related to the housing sector. In addition, they stressed the need to rationally increase the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and promote vertical urban development to ensure the optimal use of limited land resources in the capital.

The Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Tarique Rahman, stated that the housing sector is one of the key driving forces of the national economy and that its development is essential for the country's overall economic growth. He said the government is working to establish a transparent, accountable, and investment-friendly environment in which the housing sector can develop in a planned, sustainable, and corruption-free manner.

He further stated that the government has already undertaken a number of reform initiatives to prevent irregularities in the housing sector and is taking additional effective measures to strengthen good governance in the industry.

The Honourable Prime Minister also emphasised that urban development should not remain Dhaka-centric. Instead, he stressed the importance of promoting planned development across all regions of the country, while ensuring that agricultural land is protected alongside future development initiatives.
