Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP's Standing Committee, has returned to Bangladesh after a long exile of nine years in India. He arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight from Delhi on Sunday afternoon at around 2:15 PM. BNP's large number of leaders and activists welcomed him at the airport. In the VIP lounge, BNP Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi greeted him with flowers. Also present were BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Salahuddin Ahmed's wife Hasina Ahmed, BNP's Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Self-reliant Affairs Secretary Shirin Sultana, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP's Convener Saiful Alam Nirob, and Member Secretary Aminul Haque, among others.

After arriving in Bangladesh, Salahuddin Ahmed went directly from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Zia Uddan in the capital to pay his respects at the grave of BNP founder President Ziaur Rahman. Salahuddin expressed his gratitude to Allah for allowing him to return after more than nine years of exile. He congratulated the country's people for their role in securing a second liberation and a new Victory Day. He emphasized that this freedom and victory must be made meaningful by reforming the democratic structures of the country and ensuring a truly democratic state for the people.

He urged the people to remain patient, restore order, and improve law and order conditions, emphasizing that if the rule of law and democratic institutions are made independent and impartial, the benefits will reach every household in the country. He warned against internal conspiracies and stressed the need to protect the nation from external attacks. Salahuddin highlighted the importance of unity and viewing everyone as Bangladeshis regardless of their religion, caste, or political affiliation.

Referring to the end of fascism, Salahuddin stated that no single-person rule or autocracy would have a place in Bangladesh. The country was not liberated by a single individual or party but through the collective struggle of its people. He emphasized that freedom and victory belong to everyone, and it is the responsibility of all to safeguard the nation.

Salahuddin's travel pass was issued by the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Gauhati on Tuesday. He went missing from Dhaka on March 10, 2015, and was later found in Shillong, India. The Indian government informed Dhaka that Salahuddin had been detained by Shillong police for "wandering aimlessly." Following legal proceedings in India, he was cleared of the illegal entry charge in October 2018. Despite the verdict, political reasons had prevented his return until now. With the political situation changing and the Prime Minister having fled to India, Salahuddin returned to Bangladesh using a travel pass without a passport.
