Dhaka police brutally attacked BNP activists injuring at least 100 BNP activists and arresting more than two dozen leaders and activists of BNP from the Science Laboratory area on May 23, 2023.

According to witnesses, BNP leaders and activists began a pre-planned road march in the Dhanmondi region but around 3:45 pm, police obstructed the rally and started beating them and a clash erupted.

“After attacking a peaceful program without any provocation, police picked up about 25 leaders and activists, including central executive committee member Shaikh Rabiul Alam,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s secretary-general, said.

The BNP had earlier announced yesterday’s road march programmes in Dhaka and nine other cities to press home its 10-point demand, including the resignation of the government and holding the next general election under a non-party caretaker government.
