Honourable Home Minister Mr Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed hope that the trial in the case filed over the rape and murder of seven-year-old child Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka, may be completed within the next five to seven days.
He said that the highest punishment for those accused in the Ramisa murder case will be ensured.
He made these remarks today, Sunday, during the “BSRF Dialogue” organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the media center of the Secretariat.
The dialogue was chaired by BSRF President Masudul Haque. Also present were Chief Information Officer of the Department of Information Syed Abdal Ahmed. The event was moderated by the organization’s General Secretary Ubaidullah Badal.
The Home Minister said that the accused, who fled after raping and murdering Ramisa, was arrested within seven hours. The accused provided a confessional statement before the court within one day. His wife was also arrested as an accomplice to the crime.
He said, “We quickly obtained court approval and conducted a DNA test. The test usually takes three days, and it was completed within that timeframe. The report was submitted yesterday afternoon. We have already received the postmortem report.”
He further stated that all documents were compiled together and the charge sheet preparation process was completed by last night. It would be submitted to the court today, and perhaps it has already been submitted.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that although the court is on vacation, the Chief Justice is considering canceling the leave of a special court to ensure speedy trial proceedings in this case. The Ministry of Law is dealing with the matter.
He further said, “We have appointed a special public prosecutor solely to handle this case. Considering everything, we expect the charge sheet to be submitted today and, hopefully, the trial will be completed within five to seven days.”
The Home Minister also said that the government is making every effort to ensure the quick arrest of accused persons in cases of abuse and rape, and there will be no leniency in such matters.
He said, “As a government, we are ensuring legal action and judicial proceedings. Our primary focus has been to ensure that accused persons or criminals are arrested in the shortest possible time. Over the last three months, we have been successful in every such incident. We will continue to ensure that no accused or criminal involved in such heinous crimes receives any form of leniency in the future.”
