Statement from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
Touhidul Islam, Convenor of the Jubodal in Panchthubi Union under Cumilla Sadar Upazila, was abducted from his home by plainclothes individuals and subsequently tortured and killed. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over this brutal murder in an official statement.
In his statement today, the BNP Secretary General said: "It is unfortunate that such an extrajudicial killing has occurred during the tenure of the interim government supported by political parties participating in the democratic movement, following the fall of the Awami fascist regime due to student and public protests. This brutality reminds us of the Awami fascist era. One of the key commitments of the interim government led by Dr. Yunus is to free the nation from enforced disappearances, killings, and extrajudicial executions—to protect the people from the fear of state terrorism. However, if the repetition of Awami fascist oppression continues, the country will once again plunge into chaos and uncertainty. The killing of Touhidul Islam has sparked fresh fears among the public. It is crucial to investigate whether Awami loyalists embedded in the government and administration are orchestrating such bloody incidents. No government force has the right to take the law into its own hands. Regardless of how powerful a perpetrator may be, ensuring exemplary punishment through legal proceedings is essential to upholding the rule of law. But no government force has the right to subject anyone to torture and extrajudicial killing. I strongly condemn and protest the brutal murder of Touhidul Islam."
"Illegal killings can never ensure peace and order in society; instead, they show complete disregard for the rule of law and push the country towards primitive darkness."
The BNP Secretary General has urged that the real perpetrators behind the murder of Touhidul Islam be brought to justice. He also prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s soul and expressed his condolences to his bereaved family.
