Statement by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
"We strongly condemn the attack by extremists on the premises of Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in North Agartala, India. The attack, allegedly carried out by members of an organization called 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti,' appears to have been premeditated. Actions such as forcibly entering the premises, removing the Bangladeshi flag, setting it on fire, and causing damage are clear violations of the Geneva Conventions.
We urge the Indian government and people to recognize that using anti-Bangladesh rhetoric as a political strategy within India will only lead to long-term strain in the relationship between our two countries.
We hope that the Indian people will respect the democratic aspirations of the citizens of a new Bangladesh and assist in ensuring justice by repatriating leaders who took refuge in India during the fascist Awami regime."
