BNP Business Affairs Secretary and former MP Alhaj Salah Uddin Ahmed, BNP Central Deputy Organizing Secretary (Barisal Division) Akon Quddusur Rahman, BNP National Executive Committee Deputy Relief Affairs Secretary Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milan, BNP National Executive Committee Member and Rajshahi District BNP convener Abu Saeed Chand, Comilla Metropolitan BNP convener Udbatul Bari Abu, Gazipur Metropolitan BNP President Shaukat Hossain Sarkar, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Member Secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Bogra District BNP General Secretary Ali Azgar Hena, Nilphamari District BNP General Secretary Zahurul Islam, Feni District BNP Member Secretary Alal Uddin Alal, Joint Convenor Yakub Nabi, former Bagerhat District BNP President Abdus Salam and many other leaders and activists are deeply concerned about the illegal imprisonment of many leaders and activists in false and missing cases. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gave a statement expressing concern.
In a statement today, BNP General Secretary said, "Ignoring the instructions of the High Court and keeping BNP leaders and activists in prison after being arrested in old cases is completely inhumane and politically vindictive.
The illegitimate government is continuously setting such shameful precedents to suppress the democratic movement of opposition parties including BNP. Disoriented by the large number of people on the streets against the terrible misrule of the government, including people's right to vote and freedom of expression, the fascist ruling group is continuing its unsuccessful efforts to eliminate the opposition parties. But power cannot be sustained by attacking, shooting, arresting, torturing and imprisoning activists. Rather, the illegal government along with the law enforcement agencies must be held accountable for their illegal activities. Almost every political party in Bangladesh, conscious civil society, human rights organizations and international rights groups have spoken out against the oppression of the current Nishirat government. The fall of the illegal government in the face of the people's movement and the democratic government will be established through the election under the non-partisan neutral government during the election.
I immediately call for the unconditional release of all the leaders of the jailed opposition parties across the country, including the above-mentioned leaders, and the withdrawal of false cases.”
In another statement, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly condemned and protested the arrest of Fazlur Rahman Bakul, convener of BNP in Sadar Upazila under Feni district, today afternoon. BNP Secretary General expressed deep concern over the detention of Fazlur Rahman Bakul and strongly demanded his immediate unconditional release.
