BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman has directed the relevant authorities to take swift measures to support farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region. He also instructed officials to prepare a transparent and accurate list of affected farmers.
The directive was given during a meeting held on Thursday afternoon (7 May 2026) at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division at Bangladesh Secretariat.
The meeting was organized to review the government’s financial assistance program for affected farmers in the haor areas.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of identifying genuinely affected farmers and preparing an accurate and transparent list. Based on this list, financial assistance will be provided to farmers for the next three months.
It was decided at the meeting that financial support would be delivered to affected farmers as quickly as possible. Discussions were also held on advancing the rice planting and harvesting seasons slightly to help farmers avoid losses caused by excessive rainfall.
Earlier, on 29 April in Parliament, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had announced that the government would try to provide three months of assistance to farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region.
Among those present at the meeting were Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Agriculture and Fisheries & Livestock Minister Aminur Rashid Yasin, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, Dr. Osman Faruk, Fazlur Rahman MP, Lutfuzzaman Babar, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Nurul Islam, Kalim Uddin Milon, and Mohammad Koisar Ahmed.
